In the ongoing fight for justice and equality, Colin Kaepernick continues to be a prominent figure at the forefront of advocating for change. Kaepernick rose to prominence over 6 years ago, when the QB took a stance towards fighting racism. His message resonated with many, although his fight for justice eventually saw him blackballed from the league for the growing list of controversies.
As Kaepernick continues his fight, he took out time earlier this week to celebrate an icon of the Black Lives Matter movement. In early 2020, an icon of the BLM movement would come to the fore after the life of Breonna Taylor was cut short by a brutal tragedy. Nearly 3 years later, Kaepernick, along with his foundation, joined in to celebrate the life of the icon.

Despite having not played in the league for more than six years, Kaepernick’s influence and impact are undeniable. While the QB’s pursuit for justice landed Kaepernick out of the NFL, the league has taken several actions since then, to increase their involvement in the fight for justice. From the league’s initiative to invest in underfunded communities to their social outreach programs, a lot has changed since Kaepernick last suited up on the gridiron. Despite these measures, however, the QB doesn’t seem to be content with the league’s path towards change.
“I haven’t seen any substantial change. I think there is a lot of work to do on that front,” said Kaepernick in a recent interview.

In his eyes, Kaepernick, still remaining away from the league after these many years, is an indictment on the league’s path to inclusivity. While his comments have stirred controversy once again, it remains to be seen if Kaepernick will ever make a return to the gridiron.
