Aaron Rodgers, a name that evokes a bouquet of emotions from NFL fans around the world. More so, when you are from the Green Bay Packers. The legendary quarterback spent 18 seasons of his life at Lambeau Field, before jumping the ship to the New York Jets for the NFL’s 2023 season. Understandably, A-Rod has a special connection with Packers fans, and the respect is mutual.
What makes the NFL special, other than the high-octane drama on the football pitch, is the love, respect, and bond fans possess with their favorite stars. Even though Adam Rodgers’ ‘retirement retreat’ talks have gained momentum, the Packers fans are hopeful that they have not seen the last of jersey number 12 in action in the NFL.

Mark Murphy, CEO of the Packers, was out at Lambeau Field in Green Bay to discuss the team’s shareholders meeting. However, Murphy received the loudest cheer and the biggest reception when he made a special mention of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While addressing a capacitive crowd in Green Bay, Murphy recognized Aaron Rodgers’ contribution to the Packers and promised to bring the NFL legend back to where he belongs.
“He was one of the greatest players in the history of the Packers and we want to thank him for all he did during his remarkable, 18-year career. He will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and we will bring him back and retire his number at the appropriate time.”

If done as promised, Aaron Rodgers’ iconic number 12 jersey will join the League of Greats for the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers’ jersey will only be the seventh in the history of the Green Bay Packers to be officially retired. Notably, the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets this offseason, thus ending the experienced quarterback’s stay with the team since 2005. Murphy further added that the time was right to move on from Rodgers, with talented Jordan Love waiting in the wings to take over.
Murphy also thanked A-Rod, much to the delight of the fans present inside the stadium, for his contribution to the Packers in the NFL over the years. But will Rodgers even stick around for that long?
Will Aaron Rodgers retire post the 2023 season?
It’s about when and not why, in A-Rod’s case, isn’t it? When you have been around the sport for as long as Aaron Rodgers has been in the NFL, fans tend to feel sad when the journey is about to end. Without a shadow of a doubt, the 39-year-old is in the last leg of his NFL pro career. Though Packers management and fans want to see him back in the iconic Green Bay Packers number 12 jersey, the chances of that happening are pretty slim. The talks of Aaron Rodgers’ retirement have gained momentum ever since the great man openly talked about ‘darkness retreat’ therapy to look inside him and decide whether he wants to play in the NFL anymore or not. The footballer turned to meditation, yoga, and even darkness as therapy to help him get into a better headspace.

When a player of Rodgers’ caliber has to rethink his future, one knows that both his mind and his heart are not in sync. With age definitely on his side, one shouldn’t be surprised if the future Hall of Famer takes his performance into consideration before turning up again in 2024. Also, the Jets have sacrificed quite a lot for the four-time MVP quarterback. Will A-Rod play just one season for the New York Jets and turn his back on them? Probably not. This is where one feels that the Green Bay Packers lost a golden opportunity to retire one of the greatest NFL players of all time. The separation came as a shock to the NFL community. Now that it has taken place, the reunion of the Packers and the Packers looks highly unlikely. However, expect the unexpected when one talks about A-Rod. For the entire 2023 season, the New York Jets will be Rodgers’ new address. Is a return to Lambeau Field a possibility for the legendary quarterback? Let us know in the comments.
