The Aaron Rodgers deal might be taking an eternity for the New York Jets but it may end up working in their favor. The Jets want Rodgers as a statement signing after a dismal last decade. According to an NFL insider, it’s kind of the same scenario that happened with Tom Brady back in 2020.

Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 after spending two decades in Foxborough. And he led the franchise to just their second Super Bowl title the very same season. Will it be the same for Rodgers in New York?

Ian Rapoport is of the opinion that Aaron Rodgers is having a Tom Brady-like effect on the Jets’ roster for the next season. Talking about the possibility of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins signing for the Jets, Rapoport said it is the same as all the veterans wanting to sign for the Buccaneers because of Brady in 2020. Just that now, Rodgers is wearing that shoe for the Jets.

“The Aaron Rodgers thing is interesting and worth noting. Like remember when Tom Brady signed with the Bucs and everyone was like cool, I’ll just be a veteran and go sign there because Brady is there. I feel like that’s where we are kinda going,” Rapoport said on the ‘Pat McAfee Show’.

The 2020 season saw many veterans like Rob Gronkowski go to Tampa Bay to team up with Brady. That experiment worked and the Buccaneers lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy for the second time in their history that very same season. The Jets would want the same kind of on-field effect from Rodgers, who is leaving the Green Bay Packers after almost two decades, just like Brady did with the Patriots. They have also apparently made some moves for their new QB, even before officially signing him.

The Jets on a mission

The Jets are in mission mode this offseason. They want to undo the mistake of more than a decade, in which they have missed the postseason entirely. For that, the franchise has made some moves apart from going after Rodgers himself.

The Jets have signed wide receiver Allen Lazard to bolster their offense for the incoming QB. They also signed Mecole Hardman as another option out wide. The franchise also bolstered its defense, which ranked fourth in the NFL in the 2022 season, with the signing of DT Solomon Thomas. The Jets are close to an agreement with the Packers to bring in Rodgers as the last piece of the puzzle. Still, there is no timeline on that deal just yet. They will probably keep on strengthening the O-Line till they get their QB. Will the Jets succeed in their mission? What do you think? Are the Jets really shooting for the Tom Brady effect or just hoping for the best? Let us know in the comments.
