The 2021 NFL Draft had some exciting questions that needed to be answered. One of the biggest ones was ‘Who will Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers select as the 3rrd overall pick on April 29?’. Well, we did get an answer to that in the form of North Dakota State University quarterback Trey Lance.
Prior to the draft, the 49ers were contemplating their options. They managed to narrow down their search to Justin Fields (Ohio State Buckeyes), Mac Jones (Alabama Crimson Tide), and of course NDSU’s Trey Lance.
GM John Lynch and coach Shanahan had their mind set on the youngster, especially after watching him throw during his second Pro Day workout. So what does the future hold for Lance and the Niners?

Speaking to the media after drafting Trey Lance earlier tonight, San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch had only words of praise reserved for the youngster.
“We got to know a person that impressed us as much off the field as he did on the field,” Lynch said via Rob Lowder.
If that wasn’t enough, Lynch further revealed that the 49ers called and inquired about the availability of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers earlier this summer. “When the MVP of the league might be available…we inquired. It was a quick end to the conversation. It wasn’t happening,” the GM added.
I’m looking forward to a new brand of #49ers football. Trey Lance removes all the limits on Kyle Shanahan’s creativity.

The pair also addressed all the reports surrounding experienced quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. After leading the Niners to the Super Bowl in 2019, Jimmy G endured an injury-riddled season last year. He only featured in 6 games.
The arrival of Trey Lance only complicates his future in San Francisco. There were also rumors that Bill Belichick-led New England Patriots are tabling a trade deal for Garoppolo. But even they drafted a young QB in the form of Mac Jones as the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Regardless, it will be interesting to see how Jimmy G and Trey Lance train in the build-up to the 2021 NFL season. Competition only helps to bring out the best amongst teammates. Watch this space for more.
