Recently a video of the receipt from a 49ers rookie dinner went viral on social media. The video showed the final bill amounting to around $322,391, while people knew that the players make a lot of money. To think that they’ll blow a whopping 6 figure on a mere dinner was enough to send shockwaves on the internet. However, Arik Armstead, 49ers defensive end, has cleared the confusion over the viral post. According to the NFL player, it was just a prank on the rookies.

The DE took to Twitter in an attempt to clear any misunderstanding over the viral video of the receipt. The 29-year-old wrote, “Y’all silly if you thought a dinner can cost 300k. It was a prank. The waitress went overboard.” Further clarifying that the dinner was only around $7500. Armstead and the other two vets present chipped in with thousand bucks each and the rookies split the rest of $4500 between themselves. The player also reminded everyone that he had a group of supportive veterans as a rookie, hence he would never put his new teammates through something like that.
Y’all silly if you thought a dinner can cost 300k . It was a prank. The waitress went overboard . The dinner was 7500 me and 2 other vets gave 1k towards it . The rooks split 4500. We had a great time too. I had good vets as a young player I would never do a rookie like that .

Although it was just a prank pulled for fun, it did not sit well with the NFL fans.
NFL fans didn’t get the joke
This fan was not at all pleased with what the veterans were pulling with the rookies.
A prank? To give a young man a heart attack who hasn’t finessed their team financially like you have? That isn’t very “Walter Payton Man of the Year” of you. Deforest would have NEVER

On the other hand, this fan does not agree with the choice of joke used by the players on their second contracts.
Running up bills as a prank is wrong regardless. Not everyone going to be getting big contracts. Unless you play for the Mets.

This fan feels the same way.
Regardless of the amount, financial hazing is kinda crappy. Most guys won’t get a big second contract and even the ones who do have a good chance of going broke. Young guys are in no position to say, “No” either.

While this fan made fun of the fact that the vets only chipped in with $3000.

On the other hand, this fan thinks it was clearly a prank and anyone could’ve gotten it if they examined the bill properly.
It was pretty obvious if you actually looked at the bill that it was 7k+. They fabricated the other numbers with room charges.

And this fan had a Kevin Hart clip to summarize the rookie’s reaction to the bill.

The DE has also expressed his gratitude to be nominated for the honors. “I consider my career as what I do on the field and off the field. I think they both go hand in hand.” added Armstead. “…so to be a part of that and be honored with them is a huge experience for me and I don’t take it lightly, It’s going to allow us to do more work and serve more people,” he said.
