NFL GOAT Tom Brady was the oldest active QB in the league last season at the age of 45. He recently retired earlier this year. Along with his intensive workout regime, most of Brady’s long-running fitness can be credited to his diet. Brady is 80 percent vegan and also found the TB12 method as a means to stay fit during his career. But this decision had an influence, that is now a past memory in his life.

Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bündchen recalled in her book, ‘Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life’, how they decided to switch to a healthier diet. It was a decision that proved to be beneficial for them in the long run as well.

In her book, Bündchen recalled the challenging days the ex-couple faced together back in 2008. Brady had suffered an ACL injury in the first game of the season, after which he was in bed for months. The Brazilian model wrote about how she met a caterer who made delicious organic food during a photoshoot. And then, Bündchen asked him to work for the ex-couple and deliver organic vegan meals.

She wrote, “Once Tom started eating clean, delicious organic foods, he felt much better, and it wasn’t too hard for him to give up his old diet. We both decided that we wanted to keep eating this way, even after we returned to Boston. We both felt stronger, more energized and mentally sharp.”

Ever since that day, the ex-couple’s diet completely changed. They switched to a whole-food plant-based diet that Brady continued throughout his career to date.

Tom Brady starts his vegan journey

Tom Brady follows an 80/20 rule when it comes to maintaining his diet. It means that while his diet is 80 percent whole, plant-based, 20 percent of it consists of animal-based foods. He even partnered with the vegan meal kit Purple Carrot to create TB12 performance meals, which were plant-based completely. He even stated during an interview with the People in 2018 that even after his retirement, he will continue to follow this vegan diet that he had planned out for himself.
