The San Francisco 49ers have an issue at the quarterback position. It is unclear if we will see their star quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, in a Niners shirt next season. And some are still questioning the skills of their backup QB Trey Lance. The TE George Kittle is 100% behind Lance as the next QB1 for the 49ers.

The star tight end will catch the ball for anyone wearing a Niners logo. But he disagrees with the San Francisco 49ers legend Joe Montana. Kittle already seems ready to go for the next season. And he would have no problem if Lance got a promotion.

George Kittle supports the idea of Trey Lance as QB1 for the 49ers

Jimmy Garoppolo was the starter for the San Francisco 49ers last season. Under his leadership, the team ended the season with a record of 12-8. Next season, however, the quarterback is expected to move. The Niners are very likely to trade him out.

A TMZ reporter recently caught up with George Kittle. He wasted no time in asking the TE the big question. “Do you think Trey Lance is ready to be starting for the 49ers?” Asked the reporter. Kittle replied, “Yeah.” When the reporter told him that Joe Montana thinks otherwise, the TE said, “I play tight end and whoever’s throwing me the football, I can’t wait to catch footballs from them, baby.”

The reporter then proceeded to ask Kittle if he wants Jimmy G to stay. The 28-year-old replied, “Whoever’s best for the football team, man.” He adds, “Whoever Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch decide. It’s gonna be great.” When asked about what Garoppolo brought to the table, George said,  “Love Jimmy G. Fantastic quarterback. Took us to two NFC championships.”

Joe Montana thinks Trey Lance is not ready to start games yet

Joe Montana does not think that Trey Lance should start just yet. He even disagrees with the idea of trading Jimmy Garoppolo away.

“I think they should keep Jimmy until they find somebody that helps,” said Montana. “I don’t think Trey is ready to play yet.” The San Francisco 49ers will have some really tough calls to make this offseason. The chances of Jimmy G moving out seem high.
