When Aaron Rodgers decided to swap the Green Bay no 12 for the Gang Green No 8 this off-season, the expectations sore through the roofs in New York. With both Rodgers winning his last Lombardi and the Jets making their last playoff appearance in 2010, a karmic coincidence only exaggerated the emotions in the Metropolis. The New York Jets were legitimate Super Bowl contenders this year. However, some recent predictions have put a dent in those Gang Green dreams.

Looks like the Jets trophy drought will continue for another year. Madden 23 released its predictions for the NFL playoffs for the 2023-24 season. And although the 13-year postseason break ends for the Jets, the algorithms predict another masterclass from the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. So who else has the edge over Rodgers and Co?

According to the predictions, Pat Mahomes and Josh Allen are slated to face off in the AFC title game next year, with the Chiefs claiming the conference 28-17. Madden also put the Chiefs as the favorites for back-to-back Super Bowl championships with a 37-24 win over predicted NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers.

It’s not Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, or Josh Allen who Madden 23 put in the driving seat against the New York Jets. Instead, the predictions have Rodgers and Co losing to Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild-card round of the playoffs next year. That’s a pretty costly setback given Aaron Rodgers’ 3-year $150 million contract with the Jets. $4 billion worth- EA Madden had no consideration for $200 million-worth Rodgers’ Lombardi expectations based on his losing record last season with the Packers, which saw the franchise miss the postseason after two NFC championship appearances in the last three years. That inevitably brings up the question- is Aaron Rodgers too old to claim the world championship once again?

Tom Brady did it at 43 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So it’s definitely not off the table for the 4x NFL MVP Rodgers. However, Madden gave better chances to the rest of the AFC powerhouses.

Rodgers’ calf injury could have factored into the playoff predictions

39-year-old Aaron Rodgers tweaked his calf during the Jets’ organized team activities on May 23. Despite Rodgers’ claims that the injury wasn’t “too serious, the signal-caller hasn’t been able to return to full practice two weeks later. Head coach Robert Saleh calmed the Gang Green nerves this week. “He’ll be limited [Wednesday]. Just hoping we’ll get him full on Friday, for sure next week,” Saleh said about A-Rod’s potential return to form.

The quarterback himself probably won’t pay too much attention to the Madden 23 predictions. “That Super Bowl III trophy was looking a little lonely,” Rodgers said during his introductory Jets presser. This was in reference to the Jets’ only Lombardi victory in over half a century.
