Colin Kaepernick‘s philanthropic efforts show no signs of slowing down. Despite facing backlash from the NFL while advocating for black rights during his time as the 49ers QB, Kaepernick remains resolute and is putting his financial resources to meaningful use.
Beyond his achievements on the football field, Kaepernick has continued to make an impact through various ventures. He authored and edited books, secured major endorsement deals with Ben & Jerry’s and Nike, and is now venturing into the virtual world this October. The man who kickstarted a new age of athlete activism has fulfilled his promise to donate $1 million of his salary to community organizations. Back in September 2016, Kaepernick made a million-dollar pledge to support oppressed communities. He allocated the funds to charities across the country, addressing a wide range of social issues such as homelessness, education, community-police relations, criminal justice reform, inmates’ rights, at-risk families, and reproductive rights.
According to Forbes, in total, the QB’s philanthropic efforts extended to 41 different charities. Additionally, he made a significant contribution by sending food aid to Somalia. Hosting a “Know Your Rights” camp in Chicago further showcased his dedication to empowering communities. With $100,000 still remaining for donation, he creatively distributed $10,000 per day for 10 days, inspiring matching donations from various sports stars and celebrities.
With the completion of this pledge, the 35-year-old is elated to achieve the dream, and he joyfully shared on his Twitter. Now, he eagerly awaits the release of his upcoming arcade game in October.
