

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Chargers announced former offensive tackle Shane Olivea’s untimely demise through a press conference. The beloved offensive tackle Shane Olivea aged 40, passes away. The exact cause of his death is still unknown. Shane Olivea featured for Chargers and Ohio State as an offensive tackle during his stint at the NFL. He played for Ohio from 2000 to 2003 and played a pivotal role in leading the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2002.

It was in 2004 when Olivia was selected for Chargers in the 7th round of the draft and played for about four consecutive years in the team.
Olivea’s sporadic NFL career
During his tenure in the NFL world, Olivea dealt with several ups and downs in his career. After playing for four years with the then-San Diego Chargers, he was taken to the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California. A rehab center where he spent around 89 days battling to get rid of his prolonged addiction to opioids.

While talking to Columbus Dispatch, Olivea revealed that his addiction went to the extent that he consumed 125 Vicodin pills a day. During his prime days, even a single day at NFL never went without a pill, he reminisced. Soon, the doctors began calling him being alive as a “walking miracle.”
This was the curse for his entire lifetime, which he developed during his initial years in the league. Olivea was soon detached from his contract during the rehab days and was unable to enter the world of the NFL again.
Shane Olivea- an inspiration for many
Shane Olivea battled with opioid addiction, in spite of that, he played with two teams Florida Tuskers and Virginia Destroyers during the 2010 and 2011 seasons of the US football league. Even though he was one of the central figures in the offensive line, fate had something else destined for him. He understood the value of life and tried staying clean for many years after his 89 days in rehab.

The OT made a comeback in his life after he enrolled himself at Ohio State University in 2015. He completed his undergraduate degree, the consecutive year in the field of sports with flying colors. The star was reportedly over the moon as he couldn’t believe to see his name on the degree certificate.
