Six-time Super Bowl-winning coach, Bill Belichick, is currently having a tough time with the Patriots. They had a pretty poor 2022 season, as they failed to make the playoffs. Moreover, they did not qualify for the postseason twice in three years since Tom Brady left the team back in 2020. Meanwhile, former Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty recently told a wild story, which involves Belichick’s son Steve Belichick and it has been causing some stir on social media.
Earlier, McCourty appeared on the former NFL DE Chris Long’s podcast, where he revealed that Steve became a safeties coach back in 2016, under the influence of his father. McCourty also spilt some beans regarding Junior Belichick’s early years as safeties coach.

While talking to Chris Long’s podcast, McCourty revealed that Belichick told his son two weeks before the offseason in 2016, which came as a surprise for Steve. Notably, Brian Flores moved to the linebacker’s coach after Pat Graham’s departure.
Pretty wild Steve Belichick story from Devin McCourty on @greenlight. Said Bill Belichick told Steve just before spring workouts in '15 that he'd be coaching safeties.

The former Patriots player said, “Now he’s (Steve Belichick) walking in the room, it’s me, Pat Chung, Duron Harmon, Nate Ebner. We’ve got all these veterans… I’m older than Steve, Pat’s older than Steve, he played with Duron (at Rutgers) and he’s probably the same age as Nate… and he walks in and goes, ‘Yo, I’m going to be honest with y’all. I don’t know what the F I’m doing right now. My dad told me two weeks ago that I was even going to have this job. And now I’m just sitting here like, ‘I don’t know, what’s next?“

Nothing like a nepotism story to get you all warm and fuzzy.

I mean this is cool and all, but think about how many dudes actually knew what they were doing that never got a shot to be a legit NFL coach

"The Patriot Way"

One more fan expressed the same sentiment.
So that’s why Bill thought Matt and Joe could run the offense. Also, explains why Mac said “we’re going to teach each other”. Less of a dig, and more of an honest statement.
