Aaron Rodgers and the Packers bounced back with a 28-19 win against the Chicago Bears. But it might be a little too late for a comeback this season after the Week 13 win. With the NFC East filling up the wildcard slots, playoff hopes are quickly disappearing for the Wisconsin franchise. And Mike Tannenbaum thinks Rodgers shouldn’t carry on after this season.
Former executive vice president of Football Operations of the Miami Dolphins and ex-GM for the New York Jets, Mike Tannenbaum said some choice words for Aaron Rodgers on ESPN’s Get Up. Tannenbaum had words of praise for the reigning back-to-back NFL MVP. However, he also thinks enough is enough. And it’s time for Rodgers to release himself from his own contract and give a fighting chance to the Packers in the future.

“They have to force a sense of urgency. Aaron, you’re an all-time great beyond reproach. However, you can’t hold us hostage, you have to make a decision,” Mike Tannenbaum said. Rodgers signed a 3-year $150 million extension in March 2022 with a guaranteed payout of $101 million. However, the QB’s stats this season are not worthy of the extension according to many.

King in the North, Aaron Rodgers has struggled with this offense this season and the dearth of wide receivers hurt the Packers more than they thought. Even though Christian Watson filled up as a dependable substitute, the future of A-Rod is still uncertain. After four back-to-back years of 4000+ passing yards, Rodgers will perhaps fall short of that number this year. Currently, at 2864 yards with 22 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, the veteran QB could use some revival in form.
On top of that, injury troubles have also mounted on Rodgers. With a broken thumb injury bothering him for some time, he also suffered a rib injury and missed a portion of the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s when the likely future QB for the Packers stepped in and did quite a decent job. Jordan Love threw some precise bullets for 6 out of 9 attempts and covered 113 yards, including a touchdown pass.

“You’re either in or you’re out because we have to go on and we have to decide what we’re doing with Jordan love. And it’s really unfair, the organization for you to make us twist in the wind for several months,” Tannenbaum noted. The future next year might be cloudy. However, their immediate focus for Aaron Rodgers and Co. is on the reigning Super Bowl champions, the LA Rams.
