Russell Wilson was drafted by the Pete Carroll-coached Seattle Seahawks in 2012. He was a 3rd-round pick (75th overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft. This was the same year that the NFC West big boys moved in for the highly-touted free-agent quarterback Mike Flynn.
The experienced shot-caller signed a 3-year deal worth $26 million and was expected to be the undisputed starter heading into the 2012 NFL season.
But in came a young and determined Wilson who impressed in preseason. He caught the eye of coach Carroll who opted to give the #3 a shot and the rest is history.

Why is Pete Carroll not addressing the Russell Wilson trade rumors?
"Pete Carroll doubled down on Russell Wilson [in 2012] even though he went through a bad stretch. Why aren't you doing that now when Russ is stepping into his prime?"

Former NFL player-turned analyst Brandon Marshall was the latest guest on FOX Sports’ First Things First. He was quick to address the ongoing Russell Wilson trade rumors. But he questioned the silence of HC Pete Carroll amidst all this chaos.
He said, “Great start for Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. The following year in 2013, Russell Wilson leads you to your first Super Bowl. You went with your gut, you doubled down on this guy even though he went through a bad stretch.

“Why aren’t you doing that now when this dude is stepping into his prime, where the game is slowing down. I just don’t understand Nick how we got to this point when you saw something great in this kid when nobody else saw it when everybody else passed him two times. So I just don’t understand what’s going on in Seattle,” Marshall said on the show.
Over the last couple of weeks, Wilson has been linked with moves to the likes of Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and even Jon Gruden’s Las Vegas Raiders.

However, his agent confirmed that the 32-year-old veteran will not push for a move away from Emerald City this summer. Sooner or later, coach Carroll will need to address this issue. Whether he chooses to do it publicly, though, is yet to be seen.
