The Dallas Cowboys have been having a very poor season in the NFL. They have a 3-9 record, and are currently fourth in NFC East. And are surely going to miss the playoffs this year. This has been a very poor season indeed for the Cowboys. In the last 10 games, they have lost 8.
The Cowboys lost their star quarterback Dak Prescott midway through the season due to injury. The loss of Prescott was major for them, as now they had no one to fill in for him. What came next was a run of fixtures where the Cowboys just looked lost, losing games by several different margins. Prescott was not only the leader on the field but off the field as well.

Whereas, former Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware weighed in on the Cowboys situation this season. Ware believes that it is a lack of mental toughness and leadership that is costing the Cowboys so many games.

He said “At the beginning of the game, you can see that they stuck with them a little bit. Right? Where there were still some ups and downs, and then that second half, it’s like they came out and they were like ‘ok, well, we lost the game’, even though they were down 14-17, only by three. I really don’t know what that mentality is, but that goes towards, to me, the leadership of the team.”

Dallas Cowboys suffering this year

With Dak Prescott on the sidelines, Andy Dalton has taken over the starting quarterback duties. However, his performances have been a major reason for the Cowboys poor run of form. Dalton has not been able to distribute the ball well, certainly not the way Precott can. And therefore, he isn’t making opportunities for the wide receivers to finish of plays.
However, Dalton cannot be the only player blamed. Members of the attack unit such as CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper haven’t been consistent in finishing opportunities that have come their way. Add to this a poor defensive unit that has conceded many field goals and hasnt been able to stop opposition players from running into their end-zone, it is no surprise that the Cowboys are struggling the way they are.

Things could get even worse for the Cowboys in the off-season. Dak Prescott is an unrestricted free agent in the off-season, and could leave the Cowboys for nothing, based on their poor run this year. The hope from the Cowboys will be that they can convince Prescott that this season was an outlier, and things will improve next season once he returns.
It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys can salvage anything from this season. They play the Bengals on Sunday, hoping to get a much-needed win.
