Peyton Manning is an all-time great player in the game. His rivalry with Tom Brady for years in the AFC was brilliant for the game. Both Brady and Manning elevated each other’s games to the next level. Even though Brady has won more Super Bowls, Manning has also gotten the better of him on multiple occasions.

Tony Dungy, the former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts from 2002 to 2008, recently revealed a great moment of Brady and Manning’s rivalry. Back in 2004, the Indianapolis Colts faced off against the New England Patriots in the season opener. During that game, Manning outclassed the defense led by Bill Belichick and ran the same play 12 times.
Talking about that game, Tony Dungy said, “We played the Patriots in the opening game of the ’04 season. They weren’t going to let us throw. So, they played this 3-4, umbrella defense, two deep safeties.”

He added, “And we ran 14 Gut, which is just Edgerrin James, up the right guard. Peyton called it 12 times in a row. And we were just plus-four, plus-three, plus-six, plus-four.”
It is quite remarkable that Peyton Manning dared to do that against a defense led by arguably the greatest head coach of all time, Bill Belichick. Despite that, he was able to trick them all and his team converted them into successful plays. The Colts ended up losing that game by a score of 24-27.
Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy won a Super Bowl together
Despite his legendary career, Peyton Manning was able to win only two Super Bowls. The first of them he won with the Indianapolis Colts and the second one he won with the Denver Broncos.

Tony Dungy was the head coach of the Colts when Peyton Manning led them to a Super Bowl triumph in 2007. They defeated the Chicago Bears, and Peyton Manning had finally won a Super Bowl.
After winning the second Super Bowl with the Broncos, Manning became the first quarterback ever to win Super Bowls with two different teams as a quarterback. This achievement was later also completed by Manning’s rival, Tom Brady when the latter won with the Buccaneers. The Colts’ fans loved the duo of Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy. Those were the glory days of their franchise, and that hasn’t been repeated since then.
