Quarterbacks rarely come with a stronger mental makeup than Kansas City Chiefs’ darling Patrick Mahomes. The NFL world witnessed this firsthand as the QB1 powered through a gruesome right ankle sprain in the postseason this year and clinched the Vince Lombardi trophy. However, that’s not the only thing that sets him apart from the rest of the top-echelon passers in the league. Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby recently narrated a Monday Night Football on-field incident that will surely deliver goosebumps for every member of the Chiefs Kingdom.
Mahomes isn’t one to back off from challenges. After two Super Bowl championships in the last four years, he has pretty much cemented the fear in every defensive end and pass rusher on opposition rosters. However, Maxx Crosby doesn’t scare easily. And this is what led to the heated head-butting encounter from last season. So what really went down at Arrowhead on this particular Monday night action?

Buffalo Bills’ 2x Lombardi-winning pass rusher Von Miller had Crosby over for the latest episode of his podcast, The Voncast. And the two defensive ends had a chat for the ages. When the subject of reigning Super Bowl MVP Pat Mahomes came up, Crosby couldn’t avoid the headbutt episode question from the host.
Recounting the electric MNF night, Crosby detailed PM15’s ultra-competitive mindset during the Chiefs-Raiders Week 5 action. Guess what? Patrick Mahomes loves to talk trash on the field. “When I’m out there, he’s talking s–t right back at me. Most quarterbacks aren’t like that. They are silent. Don’t say much.” Crosby said.
Things heated up after the Sin City DE sacked Mahomes twice on the opening drives. “I’m talking. I’m always naturally barking at everybody. Just part of my nature. Pat wasn’t going for it. He was talking back. Alright, what’s up? So they went down and scored. Pat’s running with a guy. Kelce scored, and they were running around in the end zone. I get bumped behind my back. I get hit with a shoulder. Turned around and it’s Pat, and he was still running. I’m like, no, I’m not going for that. Ran straight to him and I head-butted him,” Crosby added.
Pat Mahomes refuses to lose as the trash-talking fired him up enough for the Chiefs to clinch the home victory by a nail-biting 30-29 end score.
However, there is a monumental difference in Patrick Mahomes when it comes to his on-field and off-field personality.

While Mahomes’ trusted tight end, Travis Kelce is well known for trash-talking and putting salt on the wound after games, the Chiefs cannon-arms QB knows when to shut it down. Crosby recalled Mahomes always being the first to come up to him after their matchups and show the necessary appreciation for the defensive star. And respect is a two-way street. “I got a bunch of respect for him. And it’s an honor to chase him down,” Crosby told Miller.
