Herbert has more in mind for his father than simply splurging with his massive $262.5 million contract extension. As the third quarterback this year to secure a blockbuster extension, he surpassed many rich contracts bagged this year.
Joining the likes of Eagles Jalen Hurts ($255 million) and Ravens Lamar Jackson ($260 million), Justin Herbert has claimed the title of the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history based on average annual value. However, instead of basking in the limelight, Herbert plans to put his fame and fortune to good use. Yesterday, Justin Herbert made an appearance on the ‘Pat McAfee Show,’ where he was asked about his plans after signing the massive contract extension. The hosts of the show asked him, if would he opt to “build a massive house” or do something else. In a heartwarming response, Herbert shared, “I’m thinking maybe put a field goal post in my backyard for my dad, so he doesn’t have to tape it up anymore.”
He also added, “I feel I owe him a couple of dinners at least.” Herbert’s father, Mark Herbert, has a strong sports background, having played football and excelled in track at the University of Montana. His mother, Holly Herbert, also has a sports legacy, having been a talented college basketball player at the University of Oregon.
Growing up in a sports-oriented family, Justin has always been supported by his parents in his football career. Now, with the $262.5 million contract, their unwavering encouragement and belief in him have been rightfully recognized and honored.
