Athletes who play in the NFL have to go through rigorous periods of training and camps to be fit to play. They go through huge amounts of physical stress to play at the highest level. However, there are some days when even the highest-performing athletes need to take an off. One of those occasions might be Mother’s Day. Recently, a former member of an NFL team’s management took to Twitter to talk about the small concession on Mother’s Day.
The former Atlanta Falcons GM, Scott Pioli took to Twitter to ask for the league for an interesting concession for the players and the staff. He made a compelling and emotional argument for the small request he had from the league’s management.

Spioli took to Twitter to talk about a special request he had for the NFL. He went on to ask the NFL that they should keep Mother’s Day Sunday free. The GM mentioned how the two key holidays of Christmas and Thanksgiving are taken over by off-season work.
Question for @NFL – I know I was once a BIG part of the problem but in spirit of “football is family” any way we can discuss no football activity/mini-camp on #MothersDay ?
We all understand Christmas & Thanksgiving in-season work but maybe a small concession to get better? #NFL— Scott Pioli (@scottpioli51) May 14, 2023
He even took to his tweet to mention how football itself represents something larger than life. He said, “In spirit of “football is family” any way we can discuss no football activity/mini-camp on Mother’s Day?”
Interestingly, an incident happened almost 18 years ago that involved a controversy on Mother’s Day. The incident happened with an ex-Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, Plaxico Burress.

The Mother’s Day blues
In 2004, the Steelers wide receiver, Plaxico Burress had gone on to skip the mandatory weekend minicamp that had been set for Mother’s Day. The Steelers officials had believed that Burress skipped the practice due to contractual extension reasons. However, his agent cited the reason for Mother’s Day. He mentioned that the WR’s mother had passed away unexpectedly two years prior to this incident. He cited emotional reasons for his client.
Members of the NFL fraternity have showcased their love for the mothers in their life on Monther’s Day. Even legends like Rob Gronkowski as well as Tom Brady have taken to social media to talk about it. It only remains to be seen if the league will bend to Pioli’s request.
