As he moved to top-tier college football with the UC Boulder buffaloes, the former Jackson State University coach has been quite the talk around the league. When his old friend, Shannon Sharpe visited him in Colorado, Sanders revealed one of his most gruesome injuries.

Neon Deion has had an extensive playing career over the years. The two-sport athlete has pursued baseball and football professionally. With a career like that, injuries were ought to be a part of his life. However, Sanders revealed a freak injury of his that could have cost him more than just time off the field.
Deion Sanders and his freak toe incident
On Shannon Sharpe’s latest podcast, the former NFL player took the road to visit an old friend in Colorado. Sharpe visited Sanders in his new Buffaloes camp, where he was going through what has now become his daily routine.
Sharpe played Santa Claus for Sanders as the festive season approaches. He brought Sanders a pair of Beats headphones in the colors of Boulder, Black, and Gold.
While the former Super Bowl winner was getting his daily massage, he showed his amputated toe for the first time on live TV. Sanders revealed he had to undergo 9 surgeries for his toe. Citing constant blood clots and dislocations of his foot, Sanders was in a position that no one would have wanted to be in. However, his mentality never stopped him from competing. Even though he was dealing with injuries consistently, he was always ready to compete.

As he spoke about the injury, he also revealed its seriousness. “First it was the leg, then life and the 2 toes…I thank God it got to 2 toes. Take them, I’m good!” said Sanders.
The Sanders-Sharpe connect
While they spoke of a very sensitive and deep topic, their awesome chemistry was witnessed throughout the episode. Sharpe took insensitive digs at the Buffaloes’ boss. While these could have been very offensive for some, Sanders just laughed off most of these chirps from Sharpe. They kept joking with each other in what made for a light-hearted video.
