The brand new NFL franchise Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan recently shared an intriguing story about Peyton Manning’s rivalry with Tom Brady. While Ryan was talking about his opportunity to play with the Colts, he did get some questions about his mentor Peyton Manning. Ryan was quick to enter into storytime mode as he recalled one of his career highlight achievements as an Atlanta Falcons player.
With the help of Ryan and his story, the NFL fans get a glimpse of Peyton Manning and his legendary quest to beat Tom Brady at every opportunity. While talking about what he learned from Manning, Ryan states, “When we won the NFC Championship [in Atlanta], we left the stadium, we went to dinner. And I was at dinner with my family, we were kind of celebrating. The first call I got was from Peyton. And he was like, all right, here’s how you’re gonna map out your two weeks.”

The Peyton Manning experience seems to have been enough for Ryan to understand how determined he was towards winning. Ryan quickly stopped Manning while letting him know that he was trying to savor their NFC Championship victory.
In his Pro Football Talk report, Mike Florio believes that Manning wasn’t trying to help Matt Ryan. But rather he was trying to stop his then-arch nemesis, Tom Brady from winning.

Despite being junior by nearly 2 years, Brady and Manning have had some battles when playing against each other in the NFL. They have squared off against each other four times in the AFC Championship game. They had two AFC Championship meetings while Peyton Manning was a member of the Super Bowl-winning Denver Broncos.

The then-Patriots QB Brady finished with an overall record of 8-9 against the Broncos. The rivalry between both players was iconic and regarded as one of the greatest one-on-one battles in NFL history. But while Manning has retired and is now a Hall of Famer, Brady continues his pursuit of winning.
