Kansas City Chiefs fans are on top of the world. Their team lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy in front of the millions who tuned in to witness the hard-fought game. It’s not unusual for fans of the losing team to fling accusations against the victors in the face of defeat. But currently, it’s not just disappointed Eagles fans who are finding the circumstances of the Chiefs’ victory fishy.
Both the teams were neck-to-neck. The results came down to a nail-biting 38-35 finish, with the Chiefs on top. While the Eagles blamed no one but themselves after coming so tantalizing;y close, some in the NFL world disagree. And now, fingers point in the direction of a 94-year-old NFL legend.
Did the Kansas City Chiefs benefit from the alleged SodGate?

George Toma has been around for as long as fans can remember. Known as the ‘Sodfather,’ Toma is a very familiar face. Tending to Super Bowl fields for more than 50 years, Toma worked on his last field this year. Super Bowl LVII’s grass has been in the making for a while. Over the last two years, the league invested a whopping $800,000 only for the field. While the effort put into this endeavor was greatly appreciated ahead of the game, fans quickly changed their opinions after witnessing the disastrous events that followed.
Haason Reddick on how slippery the field was on Sunday: “m not going to lie it was the worst field that I’ve ever played on. …It was very disappointing, it’s the NFL. You would think it would be better so we could get some better play, but it is what it is.”

Barstool Sports’ Dan Katz made some interesting observations. For starters, players slipped often during the course of the game.

But the NFL world’s red flags went up when the Eagles changed their cleats several times for better grip. The Chiefs on the other didn’t need to make changes to their gear as far as fans observed.
Fans also pointed out that Toma was a supporter of the Chiefs and served as the franchise’s groundsman in the past. Earlier, he indicated that the league’s commissioner had asked him to tone down his support for Kansas City because he worked for the league and had to show some form of neutrality. While the groundsman may have been a fan long before Andy Reid and the Chiefs’ dynasty emerged, fans think some bias was involved. Could the Chiefs have been given a heads-up about the field conditions? Here is what the NFL world had to say.
Some fans believe that the Chiefs had an edge over the Eagles
Clearly, some in the NFL world believe that this sequence of events points at something fishy. Some argued that while the conditions were bad, they were favorable for the Chiefs.

Gee I wonder why the Eagles pass rush couldn’t touch Mahomes all game 🤔

One video highlighted players slipping during the game.
It affected the Eagles more which is the worst part.

Not to mention the groundskeeper is a lifelong chiefs fan who works on the chiefs actual field. No connection or bias at all 😅😅

Indicating that the Chiefs benefitted from Toma’s loyalty may be a far stretch. But if there’s one thing the NFL world can agree on, it’s the horrible field conditions of Super Bowl LVII. The traction the topic has been getting will hopefully propel the league to improve the quality of the playing fields as a precautionary measure for the future.
