After crossing the franchise tag deadline on Monday, the New York Giants are bracing themselves for a huge setback for the upcoming season. In an unexpected turn of events, star running back Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, has unveiled his aggressive side, expressing frustration towards the franchise’s handling of the 2023 NFL season. Sports Illustrated’s Instagram account recently shared the ongoing tiff, bringing attention to Barkley’s potential absence from the upcoming 2023 NFL season. Highlighting the freedom of not signing the contract Barkley emphasized his leverage of having a drop season and showing the GIants his worth.

Barkley stated, “My leverage is I could say, ‘f— you’ to the Giants, I could say, ‘f— you to my teammates, and be like, ‘You want me to show you my worth? You want me to show you how valuable I am to the team? I won’t show up. I won’t play a down.’ And that’s a play I could use.

While a one-year contract remains an option, a multi-year deal for the 2023 season is no longer on the table. However, Barkley’s dilemma also extends to the potential of facing back-to-back franchise tags in 2024, which would cost the Giants a considerable amount. And depending on the ongoing rift, Barkley’s presence in the 2023 season remains in the dark.

If Barkley ultimately decides to play in the 2023 season, he’ll be under a one-year contract valued at $10.091 million, of the franchise tag. However, dropping an insight by appearing on The Money Matters podcast,  Barkley admitted that the idea of sitting out the season has crossed his mind. But uncertainty still surrounds the situation, leaving fans eagerly awaiting news of Barkley’s plans.
