Pat McAfee is not only one of the best punters the league has seen but is also currently one of the biggest promoters of the NFL. The Pat McAfee Show has over 2 million subscribers on YouTube. His following is not only restricted to the content streaming channel. He has around 5 million followers on various other digital platforms too. It’s safe to say that the show is well-established. McAfee covers various sports through his channel and football is a big one on his roster.

With current and ex-players as his weekly guests, he covers all aspects of the game and league on his show. His days as a professional athlete make up the majority of his large fan following. However, the former punter also makes for a good comic. On his latest show, McAfee took a dig at the NFL as they ban him from using any NFL-related logos.
The NFL is a bully
The NFL has leveraged its status wherever possible and rightly so. They have benefitted from free promotion on his show. Thousands of people tune in to watch him give his few cents on matters circling around the sport and league. However, the latest shocker from the people in power has taken him aback. He went to the extent of not even using the league’s name and instead calling it the “Professional American Football League”.

The league is notorious for being extremely obnoxious with its terms and pouncing at every opportunity for monetization. While there is nothing wrong with monetizing wherever possible, there has to be some rationality behind the terms, too. In restricting McAfee from using any logos, they are disabling him from doing what he is best on one of the more entertaining sports media shows. He took to an illustration of teams and players without any of the logos to show how ridiculous the visuals on his show would then be. This hurts the former Colts‘ punter more as this new sanction from the league comes shortly after he agreed on a deal worth millions of dollars with NFL films for official game footage.
The Pat McAfee rant
McAfee wasn’t shy of public indirect threats to the league. “I think we can find some people to chat about, to learn more about what the NFL should be held accountable for and what they shouldn’t be held accountable for,” said McAfee. This is an allusion he makes to the concussions, insurance, and other not-so-very glamorous elements of the league.

Having started the show as a source of celebrating the greatness of the league, he concluded his monologue with signs of disappointment. “We did so in a fashion I guess we’re not supposed to even though we paid millions and millions of dollars to the league, played in the league, was a nominee to the Hall of Fame of the league, but can’t have any logos on the graphics, because obviously, some lawyer in that building is a f*cking dipsh*t.”

This is not the first time he has spoken his mind. He didn’t shy away from publicly calling out ESPN a few years back either. McAfee, even with his massive fan following, won’t be able to withstand the power of the league. However, it is important that the league doesn’t abuse its power and be practical in its decision-making.
