Chris Gronkowski took us through his mom’s extraordinary sacrifices and how she shaped the Gronk family’s fame. He opened up: “My mom’s whole day every day was dedicated to really just raising us to feeding us to bring us to sports. And when I look back at it, you know, she didn’t have a cell phone. Cell phones weren’t around yet. She didn’t have GPS. It was literally breaking out maps to drive us to some hockey rink or baseball field that she’s never even heard of before. It was just absolutely insane to think about at this point. 

The ex-football fullback understands just how deep his mom’s dedication ran, especially now that he’s a parent himself. She juggled getting them to practice, keeping them fed, and handling homework like a pro. It wasn’t just talent that made the Gronkowski name legendary—it was Walters’ epic commitment, turning each day into a win with her sheer willpower. “Yeah, I think it really hit me more once I had kids, how important it was to have a mom that was like that, that would actually sacrifice everything to get us to practice and make sure that we had food to eat and we’re getting our homework done,” he shared during the Essentially Sports exclusive interview. 

This kind of commitment helped each Gronkowski sibling—Rob, Gordie Jr., Glenn, Dan, and Chris—excel in their respective sports, with Glenn recently signing a free-agent deal with the Buffalo Bills. In 2016, the Arizona standout co-founded Ice Shaker, a premium insulated bottle company, inspired by his athletic background. The Ice Shaker quickly became a hit among fitness buffs and health enthusiasts, marking Gronkowski’s successful transition into the business world. Adding a cherry on top, Rob played a key role in helping the full backer land a deal on Shark Tank, which catapulted his Ice Shaker bottle company into the spotlight. “Rob’s support was crucial,” Gronkowski admits.
