After such a splendid outing in the NFL last year, it is no surprise that Super Bowl LIV MVP Patrick Mahomes is the first member of the Madden 21 99 Club. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback led his side to a memorable championship win in 2019. They fought back from a 20-10 deficit in the fourth quarter, to beat the 49ers by a 31-20 scoreline in Miami last year.

The Texas-born athlete was handed a mammoth 10-year contract extension last week. As per reports, the reigning Super Bowl MVP stands to earn more than $500 million over the course of his contract that runs till 2031. What a year it’s turning out to be for the man in Missouri!

NFL players tend to take their EA Sports NFL Madden ratings quite seriously. Hence, making the 99 club is considered to be a special honor amongst players in the league. Patrick Mahomes did not make the cut last year, despite winning the NFL MVP award in 2018. So, it was only fair to include him this time out after a path-breaking season with the Chiefs.

There were three other players who made the 99 club this year. Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and finally, New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore. Donald is the only player to make the cut from last year’s list. In fact, the Rams’ defensive star has earned this honor for four consecutive years now. Not bad, eh?
