Damar Hamlin had the entire NFL community in tears after suffering a cardiac arrest during the Bills’ game against the Bengals. Thankfully, the safety has shown signs of improvement but remains in critical condition.

The football world- especially the Buffalo Bills squad- has witnessed an emotionally charged couple of days. Head coach Sean McDermott, who was at the forefront of everything that was happening, shared his emotions during the Bills’ press conference.

While speaking to the media about the incident and the Bills’ current situation, McDermott took a minute to let the whole ordeal sink in. He emotionally said, “I’m not a big social media person but Josh [Allen] did share something with me via text that he saw today earlier today and I looked at it and it was- maybe you’ve seen- it’s about what maybe Damar’s Mom is going to share with him when he wakes up.” The head coach took a moment to collect himself.

The emotion welling up was clearly evident. McDermott teared up while thinking about what Hamlin’s interaction would look like. He added, “It’s amazing to know the impact that this has had on so many of so many people. And for now, Damar to be awake and his mom to be able to share that with him as it’s incredible.” Indeed, the news of the safety’s improved condition is music to the ears of the entire NFL community.

Hamlin receives the support of the entire NFL world

Damar Hamlin is a prime example of the impact of sports outside the field. The Bills’ safety started a foundation called ‘Chasing M’s’. The foundation’s Community Toy Drive set a goal of $2500. In the days after Hamlin’s collapse, the NFL world has come together and supported the cause. The donations that poured in have proven that the impact of the game is greater than what we perceive.

At the moment, the donations received stand at more than $7 million. As the NFL world continues to await more positive news with regard to the safety’s condition, the Buffalo Bills will rally for their next game in honor of Hamlin.
