Everything has a price. Billionaires have a knack for buying sports teams and NFL teams are no exception. Or even the entire league sometimes. Especially when it comes to eccentric billionaires like Tesla owner Elon Musk.

The billionaire recently took over social media company Twitter and his 2022 net worth is enough to acquire the football league and all its teams. But how much of a hole will Elon have in his pocket if he decides to buy all 32 teams from the NFL?

Elon Musk’s present net worth, according to Forbes, is a whopping $210 billion. This puts him ahead of Bernard Arnault & family from France and Indian business tycoon Gautam Adani.

Here is another number to put Elon’s $210 billion into perspective. Billionaire Jerry Jones owns the most expensive franchise in the NFL, America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys. Forbes puts Jones’ present net worth at $10.1 billion. The richest team owner in the NFL is David Tepper from Carolina. The Carolina Panthers owner is valued at $16.7 billion followed in second place by Super Bowl LVI winners LA Rams owner, Stan Kroenke, at $10.8 billion.

So how much will Elon Musk be left with if he decides to buy all 32 NFL franchises?

These are the only three owners in the NFL who have a net worth of over $10 billion. Compare that with Musk’s incredible $210 billion to get an estimate of the Tesla owner’s wealth. LA Rams owner Kroenke is also married to the heiress of the Walmart empire fortune, Ann Walton Kroenke. However, their combined net worth of $19.7 billion doesn’t even come close to the new Twitter CEO’s valuation.

As of August 2022, NFL’s richest franchise, the Dallas Cowboys, is valued at $8 billion while the lowest in the list is the Cincinnati Bengals at $3 billion. The combined worth of all 32 teams in the NFL comes to around $143 billion. And Elon Musk is still ahead by about $67 billion.

Musk is known for being hands-on. Hence, Elon’s first options are likely to be the teams closest to his Texas residence. That puts the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans on the billionaire’s radar. The Texans are valued at $4.7 billion with owner Janice McNair’s net worth at $4.2 billion.
