New York Rangers honor the career of Henrik Lundqvist
Henrik Lundqvist started his journey in the National Hockey League in the year 2005. Before that, Lundqvist played in the Swedish Hockey League. He was a seventh-round, 205th overall pick by Frölunda HC.
Lundqvist played with the New York Rangers for 15 seasons. During that tenure, he became the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the team. Henrik owns the frame record of 459 wins. He also has the record for most games played by a goaltender at 887 and 64 shutouts.
The Swedish native was arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the NHL. His accomplishments got him the nickname “The King.” The Rangers decided to honor King Lundqvist by retiring his number 30 jersey. In sports, retiring a jersey is one of the biggest honors a player can get. Lundqvist’s name and number hang proudly in the world’s most famous arena. Sports fans can check out the monument at the New York Rangers home, the Madison Square Garden.
