Veteran safety Earl Thomas could find himself with a new NFL franchise in the coming weeks. He was let go earlier this year by Baltimore Ravens after punching a teammate during practice. But now, the former Seattle Seahawks man could be on his way to Dallas Cowboys in the coming weeks.

Mike McCarthy’s boys suffered their second loss of the season at the hands of Russell Wilson’s Seahawks on Sunday. However, things could have ended much differently had the Cowboys put in a stronger performance on the defensive end of things. Here’s what a former NFL quarterback had to say about the Cowboys defense and the possible arrival of Earl Thomas in Dallas.

NFL Trade Rumors

Cowboys fans desperate to bring in controversial safety Earl Thomas

Former NFL quarterback-turned-analyst Troy Aikman appeared in the post-game talk show to analyze the Seahawks vs Cowboys game. He spoke about the inconsistent Cowboys defense. Aikman also added that free agent Earl Thomas could be on his way to Dallas, sooner rather than later.

He said, “They are short-manned, they had some injuries, and this is a pretty good group that they were trying to cover. They’ve got to get that cleaned up, you cannot get into a situation where every week it’s a shootout in order to try and win a football game. They very easily could be 0-3, but now they’re fortunate to find themselves 1-2…. After what happened tonight, with some of the issues there in the big plays, yeah, he may be getting a phone call.”

Huge Dallas Cowboys fan, Skip Bayless, also jumped in on the Earl Thomas discussion.

While Earl Thomas seems like the ‘obvious choice’ for the Cowboys if they’re searching for replacements, there are a few other free agents they could look at. The likes of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Damarious Randall, Eric Reid, and Tony Jefferson are all available at the moment.

All these players are above 28 and could give Xavier Woods competition for a starting spot. Coach Mike McCarthy and his assistants need to sort out their defensive woes if they want to make the playoffs this year. Maybe Earl Thomas could be the answer to their prayers.
