The Super Bowl LVII witnessed the clash between Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. When the duo locked horns on that fateful night in February, they created history by becoming the first-ever black starting quarterbacks to face off in Super Bowl. While Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs came out triumphant over the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts did not disappoint with his performance. In fact, his last season’s campaign led to the team placing their faith in Hurts as their QB1 and singing a 5-year $255 million extension this offseason.

While receiving such a massive contract certainly brings joy for the 24-year-old QB, he now has another reason to celebrate. And this time, his QB rival, Patrick Mahomes, is not a part of this competition.

NFL fans are just 120 days away before they see the Chiefs clash with the Eagles once again on the field. Their Super Bowl rematch is lined up for Week 11 of the 2023 season on November 21 at Arrowhead Stadium. While fans will be waiting in anticipation for this game, Jalen Hurts finds himself at the top of a certain ranking chart created by NFL Network and CBS Sports reporter Jamie Erdahl.

In a recent post shared by the NFL Network on Instagram, it states the top 5 quarterbacks in the league who are under the age of 25, according to Erdahl. In the list, we see Jalen Hurts at the top, followed by Trevor Lawrence, Brock Purdy, Justin Fields, and Kenny Pickett respectively. Hurts had a great season in 2022 in his third year with the Chiefs. Apart from throwing for 3,701 yards and scoring 35 touchdowns in 15 games, he also earned the first Pro Bowl selection of his career. So why is Mahomes not in this ranking? Well, it is because the Chiefs QB is already 27. So he does not qualify for the list that talks about QBs under 25 years of age.

While Hurts tops this list of Erdahl, some still believe that the 24-year-old is not given the credit he deserves in comparison to the best QBs in the league.

Recently, ESPN released a list of the top 10 QBs in 2023. And 2X Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes was sitting pretty at the No.1 position for his exceptional Super Bowl victory. And when it came to the Eagles’ 24-year-old QB, he was placed in the sixth position, behind Josh Allen and Joe Burrow. This led Kimberly A. Martin to bring this up during an episode of First Take. She said that Hurts is a “victim” and “the most disrespected player in the NFL.” Martin further went on to justify herself by stating that since Hurts led the Eagles to a Super Bowl, he deserves to be above Allen and Burrow.

But at the age of 24, Jalen Hurts has already created an impact in the NFL. And as time goes by, fans will be waiting in anticipation to see their $255 million QB improve on his performance even more, as he still has a long way to go in the league.
