While talking about Davis’s performance on Twitter, Johnson tweets, “4.8 40 is fast…Great run big man, can’t wait to see you wreak havoc!!”. It seems Dwayne Johnson’s pride in Davis comes from his unfulfilled dream of playing in the NFL.

He played NCAA football with the Miami Hurricanes in 1991 and played with a team that would go on to win the national championship.

Despite starting only once for the team, he played with the team for 4 seasons while appearing in 39 games. He made a total of 77 tackles and 4.25 sacks in all those outings in a Hurricanes jersey. Nicknamed ‘Dewey’ by his fellow teammates, coaches and teammates believe he was a physical specimen and a good player.

Dwayne Johnson electrifying the NFL in his way

Within the tweet praising DL Jordan Davis, he also tagged the XFL football league that he had salvaged from the brink of bankruptcy in 2020. He signed a deal for his football league to become a live research and development lab for the NFL. It allows the NFL to test new initiatives ranging from on-field technology to proposed rule changes and even trial runs for new officials.

The league has a built-in interest in overseeing the XFL succeed as a test kitchen of sorts for the evolution of football. The XFL was also reportedly set for a relaunch this year but current world health affairs have led to the further postponement.

The former Hurricanes defensive lineman seems to recognize Davis’s efforts. He received an ovation from the several thousand fans inside Lucas Oil Stadium. He recorded the fastest time for any player over 330 pounds at the NFL Combine since 2006. Davis, for some scouts, is a potential first-round pick in next month’s 2022 NFL Draft. He seems like a prospect with a high ceiling that excites NFL fans of every franchise.
