Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently announced the revival of the action-packed version of football, the XFL. It is going to be the third time that the league will kick-start, this time under the co-ownership of former WWE star, former Miami Hurricanes defensive tackle, and Hollywood hunk, Dwayne Johnson.

The league also tried to put an impression over the American audience under the ownership of Vince McMahon but failed to do so not once but twice over the course of two decades. But now with the partnership of the NFL, the dream of a successful spring league is about to come true. The league is scheduled to start on February 2023.

However, tough times looms over the head of the XFL way before the league has even started. Its direct competitor, the USFL (another spring league) is trying its best to compete against the XFL. The United States Football League is scheduled to start this year on April 16th for its inaugural season but is already facing tough times with the sudden rise of the XFL.
The Dwayne Johnson owned XFL faces a roadblock by the USFL
The USFL, which is owned by Fox Sports, has a similar concept as that of the XFL. They both have eight teams and are played over the course of the NFL offseason to fill in the football void for the audience.

As per Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal, the USFL covers player contracts for one year, with a one-year option. However, they can also choose to squat on all the player contracts for the 2023 season, barring them from switching sides to the XFL.

After getting challenged with the XFL, the USFL may take a step further on their competition, however, it won’t profit them for long. Since the XFL has officially joined forces with the NFL, the players would have the freedom to switch at the end of the 2023 season of the USFL.
