The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Dwayne Haskins’s death, was an extreme shocker for many NFL fans. The news was initially broken by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, however in an insensitive way that irked heat from fans and received harsh criticism. However, the analyst deleted the tweet and apologized through his famous podcast on Tuesday.

Adam Schefter was at the center of hatred for a few days now. Though he claims to have unintentionally tweeted with some insensitive clauses, Schefter offered his heartfelt condolences and support for the bereaved family of Haskins. But the fans seemed to be in no mood to accept the apology, while some supported him, citing that the tweet was unintentional.

Dwayne Haskins was one of the emerging talents in the NFL. The 24 year-old-quarterback was hit by a dump truck on Saturday morning, while he was walking on a limited access facility. The time was estimated to be around 6:30 am local time. He was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 when there was oncoming traffic.

The youngster was declared dead instantly on the spot after the accident. Soon, Adam Schefter tweeted about the incident, however including a clause, “struggling to catch on” in his tweet. The message didn’t go well with the fans, and even celebrities started reacting to his tweet. Lamar Jackson was the first notable personality to lash Schefter and criticized his use of words.

As soon as the negative responses started coming by, Schefter might have regretted his decision to break the news. He took down the post and two days later apologized for his actions. He offered his condolences and mentioned his intentions behind the tweet through his podcast.

“It was insensitive,” Schefter said. “It was a mistake, and I can assure you it was not my intention. I wish I could have that tweet back.” Schefter added to his message. Despite apologizing publicly, fans weren’t impressed by his message. “I’m sorry, so let’s apologize by promoting my podcast. Wow,” a Twitter user said.

While another user shared a funny video clip asking him the context for the apology.

A contrasting tweet came from Mitchell David Speedy, where he reported to support Adam Schefter and his deleted tweet.

One user appreciated Schefter’s initiative to apologize, though it happened two days later.

A user with the name John Griffith also joined the league for appreciating the analyst.

 

Indeed, it was a great loss for the sports fraternity and Pittsburgh Steelers to lose a player like Haskins from their roster.

Dwayne Haskins was an emerging talent for Pittsburgh Steelers

During his college days, Haskins was a star player piling up records for Ohio State, including single-season passing yards (4,831), touchdown passes (50), and total offensive yards (4,939). After showcasing exceptional gameplay for the Ohio State University’s football team, the Washington Redskins selected Haskins. He was the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft; however, he couldn’t reach up to the lofty status.

Haskins played 16 games across two seasons for Washington. Later, the club released him in December 2020, paving the way for the Steelers to sign a deal with the young quarterback. He was speculated to adorn the role of a third-string QB, but after the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger, his position would have improved in the upcoming season. However, fate had something else destined for him.
