The Dallas Cowboys’ first-round pick in the 2021 draft was a linebacker. Not just any LB, but one who joined the club and went straight to the top of their sack rankings as a rookie. His name is Micah Parsons. Parsons was the 12th overall pick during the 2021 draft from Penn State. But what did joining Dallas mean for the LB?

Parsons sat down to talk to the hosts of the Pivot Podcast about Dallas, the Draft, and what went through his own mind before being drafted. His words gave an insight into prospects’ minds on the draft day.
The call from the Cowboys thrilled Parsons
Parsons spoke about his emotional state before and after the call from the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He said, “It was crazy like I was hyped bruh. As soon as I saw the stars like finally right…”
Micah not only was hyped, but his joy at his selection was also clear from a video of him and his family celebrating when he got the call from the Cowboys.
The LB said that Jones had previously quoted wild numbers regarding his selection. Being in the first round was the hardest thing for Micah “because you know those who don’t know like when you’re in that first round slot they give you wild numbers like you go from six to fifteen or so.”
For this, the former RB Fred Taylor said that it gets difficult to stay calm, and there is always a chance of embarrassment if teams do not select players as expected.

He also mentioned that he “was just like super nervous…like I can’t even describe the emotion right now.. like my heart was pumping, and I was racing.” It was more so with many people expecting him to be among the top five picks of 2021.
Micah Parsons competes with DeMarcus Lawrence for most sacks
Parsons’ first season at the Cowboys was a stellar one. He overtook Cowboys’ sack leader DeMarcus Lawrence’s record, making 12 sacks in 13 games. It probably was an unexpected statistic. Although not entirely surprising from a rookie of his caliber.

It has also led to a friendly rivalry developing between Lawrence and Parsons over the statistic and could be the focus of on-field competition between the two this season. His performance in his rookie season justified the Cowboys’ faith in him and led him to being unanimously selected DROY and for the Pro Bowl.
Parsons told the hosts that playing for the Cowboys was a dream for him, humorously adding he also wanted to move to Dallas because Texas is a tax-friendly state.

However, Parsons didn’t move to Dallas only to save taxes. His statistics from his first season, including his sack count, show the amount of work he put in to succeed in his rookie season. With such a high benchmark, Parsons’ fans would wait for an even more explosive 2022 season.
