Drew Brees Addresses Rumors of Him Making a Sensational Return to the NFL in 2021

The city of New Orleans had to wait long and hard to land its first Super Bowl title. Strugglers early on, the franchise’s fortunes though turned around with the introduction of QB Drew Brees and Head Coach Sean Payton.

Signed as a free agent in 2006, no one could comprehend the impact Brees would end up making. Retiring at the end of the 2020 NFL season, Brees ended his career as the league’s all-time passing leader. A 13-time Pro Bowler, Drew Brees walked away as an NFL legend and the only QB in Saints history to guide them to a Super Bowl win. 

Few players in the NFL enjoy the sort of stature Drew Brees has at New Orleans. One name that comes to mind is Tom Brady and his involvement with the New England Patriots.

But as we all know, even Brady ended up joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to further his own legacy. So could Drew Brees do the same? Could the now 42-year-old QB really make a sensational return in 2021? That too with a different franchise? 

Drew Brees opens up on rumors of him returning to the NFL

Talking to Football Morning in America, Brees was asked whether he would return to the NFL if a suitable offer came around. And while it’s only been a few months since he called it a day on his playing career, the QB feels he’s in no shape to return to the league.

“I better get my butt going if that’s the case,” Brees said. “There is a saying that if you don’t use it, you lose it. That’s the truth.”

Now away from the field, Brees said that his body is still acclimatizing to life without football. And that’s something that he believes will limit his chances of ever returning to the league.

“My arm is killing me because I haven’t been training to throw. I actually feel worse now than at any other point in my career. I may have one throw, one series, one drive.”

One of the best during his time in the league, Drew Brees returning would be earth-shattering news in the NFL. But the likelihood of that happening as it stands sounds rather bleak.
