Canadian Rapper Drake is a big NFL fan. He is friends with numerous stars in the league and often has NFL references in some of his songs. In his recently released album, the rapper gave a shout-out to a legendary quarterback, and it almost went unnoticed.

And the shout-out is indeed deserved, one must say.

Drake gives a shout-out to this legendary NFL QB

Drake has given a shout-out to the legendary Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. It was in his recent album ‘Her loss’ with 21 Savage. The rapper used something close to Roethlisberger’s nickname. He said, “Big Benjamin” in the lyrics of his song, which is a play on Roethlisberger’s first name and his nickname, ‘Big Ben’. It also had a reference to Roethlisberger’s NFL team, the Steelers. How did it almost go unnoticed?

This is not the first time that Drake has given a shout-out to someone in the league. In the same album, Drake mentioned the owner of the New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Kraft found a mention in the song titled ‘Middle of the Ocean’.

Drake is a self-confessed Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos fan. But that didn’t stop him from cheering for his friend Odell Beckham Jr. when the Los Angeles Rams met the Cincinnati Bengals for the Super Bowl last season. And neither did it stop him from giving a shout-out to the Steelers and its legend, Roethlisberger.

Ben Roethlisberger’s career in the NFL

Ben Roethlisberger played in the NFL for 18 seasons with the Steelers. The team from Pittsburgh selected the QB in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft. And he repaid the faith by winning the offensive Rookie of the Year award that season.

The next season, Big Ben won his first Super Bowl title with the Steelers in Super Bowl XL in 2006. The Steelers defeated one of Drake’s favorite teams, the Seattle Seahawks.

Apart from the two Super Bowl titles, Roethlisberger appeared in the Pro Bowl six times in his career. He led the NFL twice in passing yards (2014 and 2018). The QB threw 64,088 yards in his NFL career, completing 64.4% of his 8443 pass attempts. Roethlisberger retired from the league after the 2021 season. With a career like that, no doubt he found a place in one of Drake’s songs.
