The San Francisco 49ers remain to be in a precarious position. While they have seen some amazing performances from their rookie, Brock Purdy, but his injury complicates their choices for QB 1. Recently, some developments in his situation make it interesting for the 49ers. Also, they have Trey Lance rearing to come out of the gates and prove his worth to the team. The dilemma of who should start remains.
With Jimmy G most likely out of the picture, the 49ers have a tough call to make. Interestingly, many NFL insiders have opinions on this. Ian Rapoport appeared on the Pat McAfee show recently and shared his two cents on the dilemma they’re facing. His opinion came from an interesting place and, as per usual, NFL fans had something to say about it.
Brock Purdy vs. Trey Lance debate

Rapoport shared his opinion about the Purdy and Lance situation. In light of this new development, the scenario for the 49ers definitely changed. However, Purdy has recently decided to delay undergoing surgery for his elbow. He claimed that it won’t interfere with the upcoming season. However, Rapoport pointed out how the season was getting closer and they might have to pursue Lance avenue. He also posed an interesting question and asked, “They have Trey Lance I guess, or do they sign a veteran?” With his indirect question, Rapoport might have given the rumor mill something to churn over.

The NFL insider also went on to make a shocking statement on how Jimmy G‘s future with the 49ers. He declared that he feels Garoppolo’s career might just be done in San Francisco.
Furthermore, Rapoport’s musing on the McAfee show got fans in a frenzy about who they think will be starting in the upcoming season. They took to Twitter to share their opinion, and two very clear opinions surfaced.
Fans separate off into Camp Purdy and Camp Lance
In typical fashion, fans have gone on to take sides in this debate between Purdy and Lance. One fan went on to say that Lance should start even if Purdy was ready.

All in all, it seems like both sides of the argument have an ample amount of supporters. While some people feel like Lance would be a better fit, there is no denying the quick success Purdy has had in the past season.
While the debate will continue, the update on Purdy’s health is certainly going to complicate things for management. it only remains to be seen who will be throwing the first pass for the 49ers when the new season arrives.
