What a season it’s turning out to be for Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks. The NFC West big boys are on a 5-1 record heading into Week 8 with franchise quarterback Russell Wilson leading the race for the NFL MVP award. But another Seahawks player who has grabbed headlines in recent weeks is the young wide receiver, DK Metcalf.

Metcalf’s magnificent recovery on Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker is definitely one of the plays of the season. But a certain NFL head coach thinks that the second-year wide receiver has the potential to go down as one of the greatest to play in the league.

Kyle Shanahan heaps praise on young Seahawks wideout

San Francisco 49ers host Russell Wilson-led Seattle Seahawks in Week 8. Ahead of their blockbuster match-up, here’s what Kyle Shanahan said about Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf.

“As a rookie last year, he was unbelievable. He’s only better this year. DK is just different than everyone. I mean, not everyone. The guy he reminds me of is Julio. The way he runs, the way his body is, the way he lowers his head and comes off the ball. His stride. His arm pump. His physicality.”

“Julio is the top of everybody to me. And just to be able to be mentioned with him shows you the type of freak he is,” the 49ers head coach told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports.

Will DK Metcalf make the Pro Bowl in his second season with the Seahawks?

However, Shanahan claims that Metcalf still has a long way to go in order to be compared with the legendary Julio Jones. But he added that both players share a similar style of play.

“He’s not there, yet. Julio has been doing it for a while, but there aren’t many guys you can put in that category who have that physical type of gift that he has.”

“And, also, just watching him play, he’s picked up that mentality. He’s tough. He goes hard every play. He blocks. He comes off the ball and never takes a play off. Reminds me a lot of Julio,” Shanahan added.

Jones has 584 yards on 38 receptions with two receiving TDs to his name. Meanwhile, Metcalf has registered 519 yards on 24 receptions with five receiving TDs.
