Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf gave NFL a tear-jerking reaction during his 2019 NFL Draft selection. The talented WR was one of the draft prospects who wasn’t picked in the first round. The former Ole Miss WR displayed impressive skills during the 2019 NFL Combine with a 4.33-second 40-yard dash and a 99th percentile SPARQ-x score.

It came as a surprise for many NFL fans when teams didn’t draft him early on. But the Seahawks did end up choosing him in the 2nd round with their 64th overall pick.

He received the call while being surrounded by his friends and family, with GM John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll giving him the life-changing news.

The Seahawks‘ newest acquisition impressed in 7 games a season prior, recording 26 receptions for 569 yards and 5 TDs. The NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared him to ex-NFL wideout Josh Gordon and gave him a first-round grade. Metcalf has since shown his quality in the WR position, ranking among the top WRs in the league.

Is DK Metcalf due for a new deal?

Metcalf is one of the remaining star players in the franchise and entering the final year of his contract. He is among some of the league’s best wideouts and due for a new deal. Metcalf is due $3.986 million in the fourth year of his rookie contract. Carroll will be keen to keep hold of the electrifying WR, who will be taking the reins of leadership in 2022.

He reported recently to the start of the Seahawks’ voluntary offseason workouts. Carroll was recently seen praising Metcalf for his mentality.

He states, “He’s still rehabbing from surgery, but he’s involved with everything we’re doing. He’s really tuned in…He seems to be very focused on what’s going on right now and being in position to help other guys as we get started. So he’s shown a really good mentality about the return.

While there have been high-profile departures from Seattle, Metcalf could be looking to stay. He could be a guide for the franchise as they look to the future and usher in a new era. After the complete rehabilitation of his foot injury, the Seahawks fans and coach Carroll will be depending on him in the 2022 NFL campaign.
