On Thursday Night Football, the San Francisco 49ers played against the New York Giants. The 49ers claimed their victory 30-12. As the result suggests, the 49ers held the ball twice as long as the Giants did on-field. The 49ers were leading the game since the first quarter and the Giants couldn’t catch up later, as many of their players were injured.

Besides the win, there was also something else that caught everyone’s attention. The offensive tackle of the 49ers, Trent Williams, did something on-field that shocked the viewers. The player got heated up during the game, which was clearly visible to everyone.

William’s rough actions on-field came across as very unnecessary. At the time, the 49ers were leading at 17-6 as they moved towards half-time. The quarterback who made history once again was in the victory formation when things got out of hand.

Just after the game, Alex Wilson did not hesitate to post a video of Williams punching the defensive end A’Shawn Robinson. It was seen in the video that Robinson was trying to break into the play but failed. A few of the opposing team’s players pushed him and things could’ve ended at that but the offensive tackle took things to the next step.

Williams punched Robinson in the face. It was fortunate for him that the referees didn’t take any further action except for ruling foul on both ends. If his luck wasn’t playing for him, that move could’ve got him ejected; even though the punch hit the player’s helmet and not directly his face. This was not the first fight the players got into. They have a history together.

Is there a rivalry between Williams and Robinson?

For those watching the game, Williams’ actions were not at all necessary. But the situation does have an unexpected context. This was Robinson’s first season to play for the Giants. Previously, he was playing for the Los Angeles Rams and had also secured a Super Bowl win with the team.

The 49ers were his rivals twice every season during his time with the Rams. The players had faced each other twice before this punching incident occurred. The referees were also briefed about the situation of the two players. This must have informed the decision of the referees as other players might have been ejected for the same punch.
