Stephen A. Smith is on the receiving end of the heckles ironically. The 55-year-old journalist recently pulled a hilarious stint that got the entire internet in splits. Smith has always been known for his criticism capabilities in the world of sports. A staunch judge of both the NFL and the NBA, he’s been in the limelight pretty often for his controversial opinions. So it seems fated that he’s on the other end of the stick today.

Smith was selected to throw the ceremonial opening pitch at the Yankee Stadium before a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He seemed extremely confident about his skills and even sported a Derek Jeter jersey to throw the pitch. Unfortunately, he was humbled about his skills almost immediately. The entire stadium had him in their sights and Derek Jeter himself advised Smith by saying, “Don’t F this up.” But Smith would soon disappoint Jeter.

On the ‘First Take’ show hosted by Max Kellerman and Smith, Molly Qerim brought out an unexpected guest. Carmen Smith, Smith’s sister, appeared on the show, much to his surprise, and proceeded to present her views on the atrocious first pitch that Smith threw out. She said, “Did he just do that? I had to watch the video over and over again because I couldn’t believe it. And the way you lifted your leg when you threw the ball, it seemed as if you had bubble gut.”

Carmen further gave him advice about how if he ever gets a chance to do it again, she will personally train him how to throw in the driveway of their house. Smith responded with stunned silence as everyone laughed at his fiasco and later humorously admitted that he did have bubble gut as he ate a hot dog before he threw the pitch. When asked about his response to this confrontation, he proceeded to say that he’ll soon have his vengeance for all the mockery.

In his entire career, Smith has only been known to severely criticize players on the court after a poor performance. It’s been a long discussion about how Smith talks a lot of game on the mic but has no professional sporting career himself. Thus, it’s been an irony as to how he gets to voice out his harsh opinions so often without even indulging in a sport.
