The showdown in Boulder was ESPN?s fifth most-watched college football game ever. The sensation that is Coach Prime has brought $17 million to the Boulder economy with each sold-out home game. But, when you type ?Colorado Buffaloes? on Google, one of the auto-fill terms is ?over-hyped?. Are the Buffs really over-hyped??
The scoreboard tends to disagree. With many doubting even Coach Prime?s ability to turn around the fortunes of the Buffs, they have managed to charge head-on and take down TCU, Nebraska, and Colorado State. The tussle with the latter being watched by 9.3 million spectators on ESPN is certainly a big point that Sanders may rely upon.
Using criticism as fuel to push harder

In a conversation with Taylor Rooks, when asked if the Buffaloes were overhyped, Deion Sanders without hesitation replied, ?I don’t feel that we’re overhyped, I feel that we were underestimated, if anything.? And here we are forced to side with Prime Time. After an abysmal 1-11 season last year, only three games down, and already the Buffs have won all of them.
And it’s not only the Prime Effect at play here. Their roster has also seen a dramatic overhaul with new QB Shedeur Sanders and WR Travis Hunter. Besides, all the criticisms thrown at Sanders just turned into fuel for him and his team to bring their A-game. ?We chronicle everything. I keep receipts, everybody knows that,? also rings out as a warning to those who doubt Coach Prime.?
Besides being a two-sport maverick and a gifted coach, Prime Time is also a PR mastermind. There?s no doubt that some of the hype around Colorado is manufactured. Not that they have done anything yet to prove unworthy of it,

The number didn?t come in on their own. Coach Prime?s magnetic charm has no trouble attracting celebrities. Just before the showdown between Colorado and Colorado State, several celebrities had flocked to Boulder. Dwayne ?The Rock? Johnson and rapper Lil Wayne being the biggest names. Moreover, popular shows such as The Pat McAfee Show, First Take and College GameDay all broadcast live from Boulder.
And then there is the entire Jay Norvell controversy. The trash talk by Colorado State?s Head Coach made it personal for the two Sanders and drew many eyeballs. More than anything, the controversy made it a showdown between Sanders and Norvell of sorts. And ESPN was the obvious beneficiary.

The Buffaloes’ next challenge is going to be tough. Oregon had just come off a total domination of the Hawaii football squad. Will they improve to a four-win record?
