NFL has created rules for the league and its players so that some decorum is maintained, and ignoring these rules can land a player in big trouble. One such rule mentioned in the NFL rule book is that the players cannot feature in a commercial in which they are drinking or endorsing a beer. But did Patrick Mahomes find a loophole to earn extra cash while doing beer commercials?

Yes, it seems Coors Light has figured out a way to make Patrick Mahomes its new face in the commercial. But how is this possible? Recently in a news release, Patrick Mahomes said, “This summer I’m excited to team up with Coors Light again to debut ‘The Coors Light. It’s a legit flashlight. It’s made with high-quality steel. So it feels cold, like the Rocky Mountains.”

Coors Light released a new commercial on Tuesday where the brand’s name is used creatively to showcase a flashlight instead of a beer. At the very beginning, the ad clarifies Mahomes cannot endorse an alcoholic product.

Mahomes is promoting a steel flashlight that has similar features to a beer. As he says, the Coors Light comes in sizes of 12 or 16 fluid ounces.

The proceedings from the flashlight sale will go to the foundation of Patrick Mahomes

Well, it is not all a joke, as Coors Light will sell a few flashlights for $15 on their website. Not only this, all the proceedings will go to the Chiefs’ quarterback charity, the 15, and the Mahomies Foundation. The foundation is working toward helping needy children and upgrading their lifestyles.

Coors Light’s senior director of marketing Chris Steele said, “It’s a play on words. We love the pun. It’s a way for him to have a fun, little campaign with Coors Light while still following all the rules.”

The entire ad is based on wordplay, and Mahomes is promoting the brand, not the alcoholic beverage, so he is not violating any NFL rules.
