College football games are as exciting as any NFL game. The Kansas City Chiefs QB, Patrick Mahomes, and the former starting QB for the Carolina Panthers, Baker Mayfield, were star players during their college years. These two-star QBs were always deemed as the perfect prospects who made their way up in the NFL.

Since the young guns played exceptionally well, there was a game where these two made history.

Patrick Mahomes is one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the league. His quarterback play is exemplary and is held to a high standard by many. Before becoming the NFL star he is now, he was an upside draft prospect from Texas Tech. He became the full-time QB for his team in 2015; that was during his sophomore year.

In his junior year, he was the most coveted draft pick. In just 12 games, Mahomes could drop his season interception total to just 10 while tossing for a staggering 5,052 yards and 41 touchdowns. To select Mahomes, Kansas City moved all the way up from selection No. 27 to No. 10.

After playing very well at Lake Travis High School, Baker Mayfield earned a scholarship to play at Washington state. However, he became a walk-on at Texas Tech. He became the first walk-on player for the Red Raiders to start a season as a QB. But because of scholarship issues and difficulties with the coaching staff, he became a walk-on at the University of Oklahoma.

There, in his senior year, the quarterback completed passes for 4,627 yards and 43 touchdowns. His college career total of 14,607 years, 131 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions places him seventh all-time in NCAA history. In 2017, he won the precious Heisman Trophy, making him the first walk-on to win the prize. Therefore, his stellar college career made him the first-round pick in 2018 for the Cleveland Browns. 

Patrick Mahomes vs. Baker Mayfield – a historic game!

The talented quarterbacks faced each other in 2016 as the QBs for the Red Raiders and the Oklahoma Sooners. The game broke several NCAA records. Sooners won the game by a score of 66-59. Both teams combined for the most total yards: 1708. In the loss, Mahomes set an FBS record with 819 total yards and tied the single-game throwing yardage record.

The opposing QB shined brightly. Additionally, Mahomes and Mayfield broke two FBS records: the most yards gained by two opponent players in a game (1,279) and the most passing yards by two opposing players (1,279) and (1,383).

Now, as big-shots in the NFL, the Super Bowl-winning QB is absolutely wrecking it with the Chiefs, who are now 5-2. However, Mayfield recently lost his job as the starting QB for the Panthers and backs up P.J. Walker.
