After extensive negotiations between Daniel Jones’s representatives and the New York Giants‘ associates, the quarterback has successfully secured a four-year, $160 million contract with the franchise. Interestingly, during the negotiation process, Jones aimed for a yearly salary exceeding $45 million, surpassing even the earnings of Patrick Mahomes.  

In a staggering deal, Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year contract in 2020 with the Kansas City Chiefs, at a price tag of $450 million. This massive deal translates to an annual salary of $45 million for Mahomes. Similarly, Daniel Jones is set to earn a significant $40 million per year through his recently announced $160 million agreement with the Giants. Moreover, Jones expressed his belief that this deal will greatly benefit the franchise as a whole.

How does Daniel Jones’ $160 million contract impact the team?

After signing the deal, Jones said in a conference, “Well, I think it’s better for the team”, which spreads the salary cap hit over four years. This provides the team with more flexibility to allocate their available salary cap space to sign or retain other players, make roster improvements, and stay within the league’s salary cap limits.

However, Jones further stated, “It gives us a little more flexibility, and that’s an important component to it. I wanted to be here. I wanted to find a way to work it out so that it was good for both sides, and it worked. And it allowed us to have an opportunity to do what’s best for us going forward. So, I think that was a key component to it. I think we did that.”

Daniel Jones is optimistic to take this relationship forward with the Giants. After having an impeccable 2022 season with the franchise, he will aim for his maiden Super Bowl championship. To make things better, the Giant’s general manager Joe Schoen has all the praises for his quarterback.

Post signing the deal, Joe Schoen exclaimed, “All we care about is inside these walls. And we’ve got a very talented, experienced coaching staff and a very talented personnel staff, I believe. And what matters is what we think inside this building. That’s how we’re always going to make decisions. We’re not going to worry about the outside noise. And we’re going to be convicted in what we’re doing. It’s a well-thought-out process, and we’re happy with the decision that we made. And we’re happy to move forward with Daniel.”
