The NFL has been abuzz with different contract controversies. The talk of the town right now remains to be Lamar Jackson’s problems with his contract and the Baltimore Ravens not giving him his due. The Ravens QB has not been given a contract to his liking. However, the NFL world is still reeling from the fact that while the Ravens refuse to pay Jackson, the Browns have gone on to pay Deshaun Watson a mountain’s worth. The Cleveland Browns are ready to make further arrangements for the contract.
The Browns have also gone to publically announce their willingness to support their quarterback’s contractual requirements amidst a complicated situation. The Watson-Browns deal might be up for restructuring soon.

Despite charges against him and a hiatus from the game for 700 days, the Browns are fully supportive of Watson. While Watson had signed a deal of $230 million, it had interfered with the salary cap for the Browns. Watson has to bear a record fine of $54.99 million. Furthermore, his massive contract contributes to the Browns’ extending over the cap by a whopping $14 million. Therefore, the organization is looking to restructure Watson’s deal to fulfill its 8-figure deal, as per Audacy.
The Browns organization is showcasing its full support for the quarterback. The organization’s VP of football operations himself has gone on to make a public statement about the restructuring. He has gone on to imply that while the league’s rules might be strict, the organization will find some way to bend them to their liking. Furthermore, he said, “We’re very excited about Deshaun. We are looking forward to continuing to evolve the offense over the next several months.” In contrast to the Browns’ support, the Ravens have been frustratingly adamant with Jackson. Furthermore, the Browns’ considerate measures are sure to seem like salt in the very expensive wound that Jackson is currently suffering.

Jackson’s frustrating situation
While the Browns are being considerate of their QB who has been absent for so long, the Ravens refused to budge for their MVP-caliber QB. The Ravens are willing to offer Jackson a contract of $250 million. However, the contract is only partially guaranteed, unlike Watson’s contract. The Ravens are only willing to offer the brilliant quarterback a guaranteed $133 million upon signing. The contract pales in comparison to Watson’s contract. It is also interesting to consider that Jackson is what is known as a double-threat QB. He was also a unanimous MVP with one of the best records for a rookie QB. Furthermore, even the NFLPA has gone on to showcase support for Jackson.
After the news of Watson’s contract being restructured to meet his needs, Jackson has more leverage to build his case. It only remains to be seen how this stalemate between the Jackson and the Ravens will break.
