There was a lot of optimism in Houston when up-and-coming quarterback Deshaun Watson signed a 4-year deal in the build-up to the 2020 NFL season.
Watson penned an extension worth a total of $177.9 million with the Texans last year. That included $111 million in guarantees, keeping him under contract through the 2025 season.
Deshaun’s extension is the second-biggest contract in NFL history after Patrick Mahomes’ contract, which is worth around half a billion dollars.

But after a sub-par season with Houston in 2020, Watson is reportedly weighing his options ahead of the start of the 2021 NFL season.

Deshaun Watson set to part ways with the Texans in the summer?
Former Clemson Tigers star Deshaun Watson has been making headlines since joining the league in 2017. His 3rd season with Houston Texans playing under GM/HC Bill O’Brien ended in major disappointment.
Watson and Co. finished with a 4-12 record as O’Brien was sacked midway through the season. Watson still finished as the leader in the passing yards category ahead (4,823) of reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.
He also has 33 passing TDs against just 7 interceptions to his name. But will he still be a Texans player in 2021?
#Texans QB Deshaun Watson is extremely unhappy with the organization after owner Cal McNair informed him he would be involved in the GM and coach hiring process and provide feedback… but then did neither in the hire of GM Nick Caserio, sources say.

Here’s a list of three possible NFL teams who could move in for Deshaun in the summer.
Chicago Bears
Matt Nagy’s Bears have been inconsistent throughout the 2020 NFL season. They’ve had to juggle between young QB Mitchell Trubisky and former Super Bowl winner Nick Foles.
But after 16 games, neither have put together a good run of results to nail down a starting spot in Nagy’s team.
Highest-graded QBs outside the pocket:
1. Deshaun Watson – 92.0
2. Patrick Mahomes – 91.8
3. Aaron Rodgers – 87.7
4. Matt Ryan – 85.9 pic.twitter.com/b58hKsPv4j— PFF (@PFF) January 8, 2021
The Bears’ defense remains one of the best in the NFC, with Khalil Mack still a force to reckon with. Bringing in a young and promising QB in Deshaun Watson might elevate the Bears into potential Super Bowl contenders.
New England Patriots
Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots suffered heartbreak in their first season without leader, Tom Brady. 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton showed flashes of brilliance in his debut year in Chicago, but his future with the Patriots remains unclear.
Coach Belichick was without a number of his defensive starters in 2020, but still managed to put up a fight for the AFC East crown.
Perhaps the addition of a hard-working QB such as Deshaun Watson will be an ideal match-up for all parties involved. The Pats are in the hunt for a successor. Could Watson be their knight in shining armor?

San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has insisted on multiple occasions that Jimmy Garoppolo will remain their starter in 2021.
Star TE George Kittle has echoed the same message after a dismal 2020 season. But 49ers fans are hyping up a potential Watson to San Francisco trade deal in the offseason.
As far as the numbers are concerned, Deshaun is definitely a more ‘complete’ quarterback compared to counterpart Jimmy Garoppolo. At 25, Watson still has the bulk of his career ahead of him.
