If you’re a Houston Texans fan, you’ll probably want to look away from this one. It’s all beginning to go ‘South’ (pun intended) for the Texans as they gear up for a tough offseason. Earlier today, news broke out that veteran defensive end JJ Watt was waived by Houston. Could this be the final nail in the Deshaun Watson coffin?

The former Clemson Tigers quarterback penned a 4-year contract extension with the Texans last season itself. But with the tumultuous exit of HC/GM Bill O’Brien and a poor overall display in 2020, Watson is reportedly angling for a move away ahead of the 2021 season. But Texans Chairman Cal McNair won’t let his star man leave so easily.

After JJ Watt, will Deshaun Watson be the next player to leave the Texans?

Houston Texans’ McNair refused to comment on the whole uncertainty surrounding Watson as the Texans aim to rebuild. “There is a lot of misinformation out there, I’ll leave it at that.

“Today we want to focus on J.J. Deshaun is our quarterback, he is a Texan, and we expect him to remain a Texan, and we’ll leave that,” McNair said via Adam Schefter.

Despite finishing the year with a 4-12 record with the Texans, Watson led the league in passing yards (4,823) last season.

He also threw 33 passing touchdowns with 7 interceptions. He is being linked with a potential move to Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. But there are no concrete reports to support these rumors just yet. The Deshaun Watson saga is going to be one of the most-talked-about stories this summer.
