The Raiders have not been doing well. They have one of the poorer records in the NFL with 2 wins and 7 losses. They are placed last on the AFC West table. For a team with stars like Davante Adams, and Derek Carr, losing with a 2-7 record is unheard of. While there is accountability, there is also blame being assigned for the losing record, and it seems to be falling on the head coach, Josh McDaniels. McDaniels had started coaching for the Raiders in the 2022 season.

However, one has to wonder, why a head coach who hasn’t been delivering results is still in the position of head coach. There might be more to it than what meets the eye.
Josh McDaniels and firing rumors
The star-studded lineup of the Las Vegas Raiders is surprisingly languishing at the bottom of the AFC West table. There is just no logical explanation for a team like this to be lacking. A lot of fingers are being pointed at the coaching staff, specifically, Josh McDaniels. There have been multiple analysts and insiders from the league who have expressed disappointment in the way he coaches. Stephen A reacted to Derek Carr getting emotional after their most recent loss and referred to Josh in his new role as a head coach and said, “McDaniels now has a new role he seems ill-equipped to handle that and that’s a big deal.” A lot of people have called for his dismissal from the role, but it hasn’t happened.

McDaniels recently received a vote of support from the Raiders’ owner. Mark Davis spoke about the head coach and
said, “I like Josh. I think he’s doing a fantastic job. That’s why I hired him. We did an exhaustive search and found the person we believe is going to bring the Raiders to greatness.” While his vote of confidence might appear sweet, it seems to be only symbolic. The reason behind not firing HC
The Raiders simply do not have enough money to fire him. The Raiders’ ownership seems to be ‘cash poor’ and cannot afford to fire McDaniels and hire a new coach and pay another salary.

As mentioned by NFL insider, Dov Kleiman, there is a higher chance of the coach being around for all the years in his contract. The Raiders being ‘cash poor’ seems to be the main reason for this. Subsequently, the owner made a comment regarding the contract and
said, “I’m getting to know him a lot better. When you sign someone to a contract, don’t you expect him to fulfill the contract?”ADVERTISEMENT

The only question in the mind of the fans is if the team will be able to turn it around with the way the team is right now.
