After having to reluctantly move on from their veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers last month, the Green Bay Packers fanbase has a reason to rejoice again. Well, they will have to wait until 2025. The NFL and its commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed this week that the iconic Lambeau Field will be getting an extremely special honor from the league. An honor completely unknown to the Titletown district and the inhabiting Cheeseheads.
The NFL is bringing its glamorous annual roadshow to Wisconsin. Yes, after the recent Kansas City extravaganza, and next year’s show in Detroit, the NFL Draft will be taking place in and around the famed Lambeau Field in 2025. Despite the good news for Green Bay’s natives and the town’s economy, the majority of the NFL fans expressed their discontent at the selection. But why?

The NFL Draft massively helps the host cities build on their economies through hotels, restaurants, tourism, and food and beverage sale during the draft’s three days. While Green Bay is ecstatic about the boost it might receive, the rest of the country wasn’t too thrilled about the league’s decision.
After a 312,000 turnout in Kansas City, the number is sure to go down in 2025. Green Bay is the NFL’s smallest city with a population of 107,397. This has possibly been a factor in the city never hosting a Super Bowl game in its history. However, the Draft debut for Lambeau is happening. This is something President Mark Murphy and his organization have been fighting for since 2019. However, fans think the event could also be a flop because of the lack of entertainment options in the city.

“Not interested,” one fan commented. “There is literally nothing to do in GB,” another chimed in. “Depressing and cold a— place,” one wrote.

There have also been concerns around the new QB1 for the Packers after Rodgers left. Some fans think that Jordan Love may not be the ideal choice. “They might have the first pick that year too,” one fan predicted a horror season for the Packers.
Lambeau gets an upgrade
Ever since the concerns were raised in 2019 over the infrastructure in Green Bay not being enough for a large-scale event like Draft Week, the city has made steady progress to reach where it stands today. Green Bay even made it to the top 3 choices for the 2024 draft before Detroit won. In the last five years, construction has been amped up in and around the Lambeau Field. More hotels, convention centers, restaurants, and exhibition places also opened up to glam up the Titletown district.
“This is an incredible day for the Packers, Greater Green Bay and the entire state of Wisconsin as we are excited and honored to be selected to host the 2025 NFL Draft,” Mark Murphy said.

The Draft moved to different cities in 2015 after a 40-year run in New York. The only thing that can make the experience even sweeter for the home fans is if Jordan Love walked onto the stage on Draft night with the Lombardi in his hand like Pat Mahomes did this year. That’s the only way for the Cheeseheads to truly move on from Super Bowl XLV MVP Aaron Rodgers.
